What is SUD Life Smart Healthcare Plan?

SUD Life Smart Healthcare plan is designed to provide financial security in the case of medical emergencies. It offers three coverage options, and depending on the option selected, you will be covered for specified major and minor Critical Illnesses. On diagnosis of a major or minor CI condition, the plan pays a lump sum benefit, which can give you the funds needed to face the medical emergency. Moreover, the future premiums are waived2 for three years so that you don’t face any financial hardship after recovery.

You can buy the plan online in simple steps and enjoy the flexibility of choosing the coverage amount and the policy term. The plan also provide you tax benefits. You can claim a deduction under Section 80D on the premiums paid for the policy. This reduces your tax liability and helps you save more. So, SUD Life Smart Healthcare can be a suitable tool for financial security for unforeseen medical emergencies.

How does the SUD Life Smart Healthcare plan work?

When you buy the SUD Life Smart Healthcare plan, you will have to choose the following coverage details -

  • Plan Option
  • Sum Insured
  • Policy term
  • Premium payment frequency

The premium will be calculated based on the coverage details selected, your age, existing medical conditions, etc. You will have to pay the premium throughout the policy term.

The available plan options are as follows -

  • Cancer cover
  • Heart cover
  • Heart, cancer, kidney and liver cover

Based on the plan option selected, if you are diagnosed with a minor CI condition, 25% of the sum insured will be paid in a lump sum. The claim for minor CI condition can be claimed twice. The premiums will be waived for 3 policy year. In case the outstanding policy term is less than 3 years, then premium for outstanding policy term will be waived. If you are diagnosed with a major CI condition, the sum insured will be paid in a lump sum after deducting the payout already made for minor CI claims.

However, if the life insured survives the policy tenure, no maturity benefit will be paid. Similarly, if the life insured passes away during the policy tenure, no death benefit will be paid. The policy shall terminate immediately on death of the life insured

Mr. Rohit has opted SUD Life Smart Healthcare (Plan Option – Cancer Cover). The details are as below

Annualized Premium - ₹ 1,107 (exclusive of applicable taxes)

Mr. Rohit is diagnosed with early stage cancer at the end of 2nd policy year. He received lumpsum of ₹ 2,50,000 and premiums were waived for next 3 policy years. Mr. Rohit starts paying premium again from 6th policy year, at the end of 9th policy year he had to undergo Bone Marrow Transplant. As per product feature, remaining Sum Insured of ₹ 7,50,000 is paid and policy is terminated.

Mr. Rohit has opted SUD Life Smart Healthcare (Plan Option- Heart, Cancer, Kidney & Liver Cover). The details are as below

Sum Assured (SA) - ₹ 10,00,000
Annualized Premium - ₹ 2,885 (exclusive of applicable taxes)

Mr. Rohit is diagnosed with early stage cancer at the end of 2nd policy year he received lumpsum of ₹ 2,50,000 and premium are waived for next 3 policy years. Further he had to undergo Angioplasty at the end of 4th policy year where he has made a claim under Minor CI condition for the second time. Here he has received a lumpsum of ₹ 2,50,000. Mr. Rohit starts paying premium again from 6th policy year, at the end of 10th policy year he had to undergo Bone Marrow Transplant. At this stage, the remaining Sum Insured of ₹ 5,00,000 is paid and policy will terminate.

You can pay the premium annually, semi-annually, quarterly or monthly. If you choose any mode other than the annual mode, a modal loading will apply. The loading is as follows -

Yes, there are specific exclusions under the plan. Some of them include medical emergencies suffered due to -

  • Any Illness, sickness or disease other than those specified as Critical Illnesses under the plan Any Pre-existing Disease or any complication arising therefrom Any Critical Illness caused due to treatment for, Alcoholism, drug or substance abuse or any addictive condition and consequences thereof Any Critical Illness caused due to intentional self-injury, suicide or attempted suicide.

If you miss paying the premium on the due date, you get a grace period. The period is 30 days from the premium due date for annual, semi-annual or quarterly modes. If you choose the monthly mode of premium payment, the grace period will be 15 days.

If you do not pay the premium within the grace period, the policy will lapse, and no benefit will be paid.

Yes, there is a waiting period of 90 days for the coverage of major CI conditions and 180 days for minor CI conditions. In the case of diagnosis of a covered illness during this period, only the premium paid will be refunded back.

  • Survival period -

A cooling-off period of 180 days is applicable from the date of diagnosis of the minor CI condition. No claim will be paid during this period.

A survival period of 15 days is also applicable from the date of diagnosis of the illness. You should survive the illness during this period to be eligible for the claim.

Yes, a lapsed policy can be revived within a tenure of 5 years from the due date of the first instance of unpaid premium. Revival of the policy is allowed after paying the outstanding premium, with interest, along with the proof of insurability. A medical report might also be needed to determine the proof of insurability.
